Welcome to the Big Leagues (ages 13–17)

Teens get their own savings, checking, and debit card—with guidance, support, and a path to full financial independence at 18.

Opening a youth account at Volt was the best decision we made for our daughter. She loves seeing her savings grow, and it’s teaching her the value of money in a fun, easy way. The Volt team made it super simple, and now she feels like a grown-up every time she uses her debit card!

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes! You can open a Youth Account before your child turns 3 months old and Volt Credit Union will contribute the first $5 to start their savings.

  • You’ll need your child’s Social Security Number and a photo ID for the guardian with the current address. If the ID doesn’t show the current address, a recent utility bill will work as proof.

  • Anyone between the ages of 13 and 17 can open a Teen Account at Volt Credit Union.

  • Teens can open savings and checking accounts, get a debit card with ATM access.

  • Yes, a parent or guardian will need to be involved in the account opening process.

  • A Coverdell Education Savings Account (ESA) is a tax-advantaged account designed to help families save for qualified education expenses, including K-12 and college costs.

  • Anyone can contribute on behalf of a beneficiary under age 18, but contributions must stop when the beneficiary turns 18 (unless they have special needs).

  • An ACH withdrawal (Automated Clearing House debit) is an electronic transfer that allows Volt Credit Union to automatically withdraw funds from your checking or savings account to make loan payments or other scheduled transfers.

To set this up, you must complete the ACH Origination Authorization Form.

The form should be submitted at least 10 days before the first scheduled withdrawal to allow time for processing. Once approved, your payments will be automatically deducted according to the schedule you selected.

If you ever wish to cancel or change your ACH withdrawal, you must provide written notice to Volt Credit Union with enough time for the change to be processed before your next scheduled payment. If a payment attempt fails due to insufficient funds or incorrect account information, you may incur fees and will need to resolve the issue before the ACH option can continue.

For questions or assistance, please contact Volt Credit Union directly.
