Hillcrest debit card revised

Frequently asked questions

  • It is inside the newly renovated Hillcrest High School downstairs near the cafeteria entrance behind the staircase.

  • It is only for those students, faculty and staff who are part of the Hillcrest community during school hours.

  • We had a soft opening during the 2024 spring semester and then hosted a grand opening in the Fall 2024. We have our first full year completed. Our branch hours are 11am-2pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Unless the school is closed, then our branch will be closed as well.

  • Volt will be partnering with Hillcrest in various ways. Some options will include presentations related to financial literacy, building credit, workforce development skills, etc.

We also plan to have students working in the credit union as part of a class and offer work-based learning experiences. Over time, students will be eligible to work and be paid at other Volt Credit Union branches outside of school.

  • The current model does not allow this option.

  • No, the Hornet card is no extra charge to you! With every transaction you make with the Hornet card, a percentage will be donated to Hillcrest High School. Members with an existing debit card with Volt may change the design of their card to the Hornet card for no extra cost. New members may also choose to have the Hornet card regardless of attending Hillcrest as a student or teacher.

  • A Hornet Account is a special account created exclusively for students at Hillcrest High School. It allows them to open a savings and checking account with Volt independently—without requiring a parent or guardian to be on the account with them.

  • To open a Hornet Account, students must bring their student ID, a screenshot of their eSchool account showing proof of residency, and a $30 initial deposit. Of the $30, $5 will be deposited into the Primary Share, just like with all our other accounts. The remaining $25 will be deposited into the Hornet Checking Account to cover the cost of printing a debit card. Once the debit card is printed, the $25 is the student’s to spend however they choose.

  • Hillcrest High School is a high school located at 3319 N. Grant Avenue in Springfield, Missouri. It was opened in 1958, but recently completed an over $30 million renovation. Around 1,100 students attend. Hillcrest follows a College & Career Academies model where all students are involved in work-based learning experiences.
